【摘要】:Becauseofscaleeffects,thereisnosimplemethodofpredictingtheinsitushearstrengthofarockdiscontinuityfromtheresultsoflaboratorytestsonsmallspecimens;insitutestsonlargespecimensarethemostreliablemeans.Resultscanbeemployedinstabilityanalysisofrockengineeringproblems,forexample,instudiesofslopes,undergroundopenings,anddamfoundations.Inapplyingthetestresults,theporewaterpressureconditionsandthepossibilityofprogressivefailuremustbeassessedforthedesigncase,astheymaydifferfromthetestconditions.Testsonintactrock(freefromplanesofweakness)areusuallyaccomplishedusinglaboratorytriaxialtesting.Intactrockcan,however,betestedinsituindirectsheariftherockisweakandifthespecimenblockencapsulationissufficientlystrong.Note18212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthemeasurementofpeakandresidualdirectshearstrengthofinsiturockdiscontinuitiesasafunctionofstressnormaltotheshearedplane.Thisshearedplaneisusuallyasignificantdiscontinuitywhichmayormaynotbefilledwithgougeorsoil-likematerial.1.2Themeasuredshearpropertiesareaffectedbyscalefactors.Theseverityoftheeffectofthesefactorsmustbeassessedandappliedtothespecificproblemsonanindividualbasis.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
